Bringing E$$ENTIAL MEDICINE$ to your school

Bringing E$$ENTIAL MEDICINE$ to your school

A half day interactive workshop for years 9 and 10.

Are you looking for a way to help your students develop an in-depth understanding of how science can affect people’s health and lives? Would you like your students to have an opportunity to be part of a global project working towards making medicines accessible to all?

On November 11 2020, you and your students will have the opportunity to join an international citizen science initiative as Breaking Good brings their new E$$ENTIAL MEDICINE$ project to schools in term four.

Breaking Good empowers members of the public to be active researchers in projects that will improve human health. Its newest installation - E$$ENTIAL MEDICINE$ - explores the world’s most essential medicines - those that are needed to ‘satisfy the priority health care needs of the population’ and to which all people should have access to, at all times (WHO, year). In reality, however, not everyone has access to the essential medicines.

In a half day hands-on workshop facilitated by our team, students will learn about why these medicines are important, how they were discovered and made and explore some of the reasons why not everyone has access to the medicines they need. The students will then conduct their own research which will help to collate and collect knowledge on the accessibility, affordability and availability of these medicines. Their contributions will help to build an open and public database which aims to aid researchers all over the world in their efforts at making these medicines more accessible to everyone.

The workshop has been aligned with the Australian Curriculum and links to further support materials will be provided to each participant.
